South Korea Ferry Services

Several ferry companies, including the Pukwan Ferry, Korea Ferry and Korea Marine Express, provide regular ferry services that link Busan with the Japanese ports of Shimonoseki, Fukuoka and Hakata.

Another ferry service sails between Incheon and the Chinese ports of Tianjin and Weihai.

You can catch a ferry to Incheon in South Korea from a number of Chinese ports, travel around South Korea, and then leave on a fast ferry from Busan to Japan.

Ferries also leave Gunsan in Jeollabuk-do for Qindao in China three times a week and take 18 hours. Another ferry option is traveling to or from Russia via Sokcho in Gang·won-do. There are overnight ferries to three Japanese cities: Fukuoka, Shimonoseki and Osaka .

For a quick trip to Fukuoka travel on the Kobe or Beetle hydrofoils. There are five daily departures plus one additional departure on Friday morning.

Depending on the vessel sailing time varies from three to just over four hours. JR Kyushu's 'Beetle' Hydrofoil Ferry sails the route between Fukuoka (Hakata), on the southern island of Kyushu, and Busan in South Korea. Since service started 20years ago, more than 4.6 million passengers have boarded the Beetle. The daily journeys between Fukuoka and Busan on this high-speed service takes just 2 hours and 55 minutes.

Camellia Line Ferries

Camellia Line runs ferries three nights a week from Hakata to Pusan. They leave Hakata at 5pm Sundays and Wednesdays, and at 7pm on Fridays, arriving in Pusan at 08:40 the next morning. From Pusan, they leave at 7pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, arriving in Hakata at 08:00am the next morning; except from November through February they leave at 6pm and arrive at 8am.

The Pukwan Ferry company runs ferries every night from Shimonoseki to Pusan, and Pusan to Shimonoseki leaving either place at 19:00 (7pm) and arriving at 08:30am. The Pukwan (Korean) and Kampu (Japanese) boats run on alternating nights. The Pukwan and Kamou ferries are one of the few scheduled passenger ferries to Korea from Japan that carry both passengers and cars.

The Kampu Ferry Company sails daily between Shimonoseki, on the western tip of the main island of Honshu, and the South Korean ferry port of Busan. Kampu ferry ships are conventional ferries with cabins, sailing overnight and departing daily at 18:00 arriving 08:30 next morning. The journey takes approximately 14 hours. On board, the ferries tend to accept the currency of their home country for shopping, vending machines, etc.
